Carin

That just breaks my heart :( God bless all you over there.

Karen

That is so sad. It's such a shame that innocent children have to suffer,or die over something they have no control over. My heart goes out to all the children over there. Also to the soldier who is holding that child. I can't imagine how that will affect him for the rest of his life.

Major K:

First of all, thank you for all that you do. I also really enjoy your blog.

Wondering if you can help me out here...I'm new to blog commenting and I'm wondering how this works. I posted the link to this photo on your blog at around 9:00 a.m. yesterday in the comments under your 5/3/05 entry, "The Triangle". Then late yesterday afternoon I found it on Thunder 6's blog with a reference to "LS" sending him the link. Probably not a huge coincidence if two people sent the same photo to 2 [soldier] blogs on the same day, right? Just curious as to whether I'm "LS".

Thanks.

Lisa

Major K. and others,

Read this, from the photographer who took the photo, for background on the incident.

http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/2005/05/little-girl.html

The soldier's name is Major Mark Bieger. The little girl was still alive while he was rushing her to an American support hospital (he wanted her to have the best care) and he kept stopping to talk to her and comfort her. That was when this photo was taken. Unfortunately, she didn't survive. The suicide bombers had struck a Stryker while 20+ children were standing around it.

Also the rest of the blog is very interesting. The blogger/photographer Michael Yon, whom I believe is an ex-soldier, is embedded with troops in Mosul.

Thanks for blogging Major K. It's amazing how blogging is taking on a life of it's own. Already through your comment section I've found several others intersting blogs including the one of the man who took that heart breaking picture.

Godspeed Sir!!

I have already seen the photo and read the story on Michael Yon's site. However, I want to thank you for posting it here. One thing that is so amazing to me (but not surprising) is that these soldiers are really mad that this A** who tried to blow them up in front of 20 children rather than waiting until they got down the road a little in order to be clear of them. The character of the American soldier continues to amaze me. I just wish that no other soldier would have to experience what these soldiers went through.

Dan

Thank you Major K.

For some unexplained reason, I actually turned on my television to watch the evening news. (Is it a full moon or something?) The soldier holding the young child was one of the main articles.

Thanks for the link to Thunder 6.

Thanks again.

Only fucking COWARDS kill children. Those insurgents all deserve to die horribly.

MOM

I have seen this picture a few times now. It still sickens me. Children are our future, how can we protect our future if things like this go on? I feel for the Soldier in this picture. I also am praying for the Family. It it tears me up. I am thankful for my sons.I also feel very blessed to be born an American. Thank You Lord for all you have done for me.

Hey, be sure and contact your mom and wish her happy mother's day and thanks much for raising you to be such a wonderful human. My husband and I read you regularly and appreciate all the hard work you and the rest of our incredible warriors do. Thanks, Janice.
